Doesn’t this pink Depression Glass ashtray make you want to take up smoking? Me, too!
I discovered this cheap and cheerful gem hiding in a cabinet at Elbers Furniture in Riverside (just west of Leslieville).
Not exactly sure, but I think the purpose of Depression Glass, beyond practicality, was to bring light (and hope) to Canadians and Americans who were mostly down and out during the Great Depression.
If you like this style of vintage decor, Elbers Furniture also has two translucent green candy dishes and a see through yellow teacup and saucer set. While it was mass produced and practically given away in the 1930s, Depression Glass is nearly 100-years-old now and more difficult to find.
